Guests arrive at Johannesburg International Airport (OR Tambo International Airport) where there will take another short fifty minute flight to Eastgate Airport Hoedspruit. At Hoedspruit Airport, the guests will take a transfer to Tshukudu Game Lodge Main Camp for check in. Depending on the time of arrival, lunch will be taken at the main camp around 13:00pm. Check in will be at 14:00pm. After check-in, guests can relax in their rooms, use the swimming pool or book for a bush spa. Dinner will be served from 19:00pm. If the weather is good, dinner will be served in the open area boma, if not, in the main dining room.
Game drive at Tshuku Game Lodge
The early morning game drive starts at 6am and last for about two hours. Guests are expected to be at reception that is located at the main camp at 5:30am in the morning. They will take a coffee/tea with some rusk(cookies). The early morning game drives will give guests the opportunity to see wild animals that are not very common because they are nocturnal. Big five sightings are also very common. Groups of zebras, impalas, wildebeests and warthogs are commonly seen grazing together.

Guests will visit the proper Kruger National Park. The Krudger National Park is one of the biggest in the world (almost the size of Switzerland) with the best sightings of the big five and other exciting animals like wild dogs, wildebeests, zebras, impalas, jackals, cheetahs and more. An early morning coffee will be take at 05:00am at the Tshukudu Main Camp before departure to the Krudger National Park. Departure will be at 6:00am and arrival back at Tshukudu will be around 17:00pm. Each guest will be given a breakfast pack that will be taken inside the Krudger at designated resting sites. Lunch will be taken in the Krudger at various sites that provide food.
One of the most interesting things about the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre, is their return of some animals to the wild. This is done in an orderly and monitored manner to ensure the adaptation of the animal in the bush. The animals are only released in protected areas where they have a better chance of survival.
Although this centre specialises in the breeding and care of rhinos and cheetahs, we also find other animals like wild dogs, civets, genets, white-tailed mongooses and southern ground hornbills.
The centre adheres to the 100% non-contact and non-interference with the animals for security reasons for both the animals and the visitors. While at the centre, you can learn first hand all the facts about rhinos, cheetahs, wild dogs and other animals kept there. All the tours inside the centre are provided by experienced and knowledgeable guides who explain everything you have to know about the project and the animals.
We organise boat trips along the river Blyde. You will be accompanied by one of our seasoned guides who will explain to you every corner of this river, the flora and fauna and the amazing landscape you will see on the tour.
The Blyde river canyon is one of the biggest in the world, and the greenest canyon on earth. The passing of water over millions of years has created amazing geographical structures that will take your breath away and that converted this area into a national park.
One of the highlights of the Blyde River boat trip is the arrival at the Kadishi Tufa waterfall. It is considered the second largest Tufa waterfall in the world. Dropping 200m from its limestone shelf to the Blyde dam below. When we talk about the tufa waterfall we refer to those created by a large amount of water with lime deposited on the rocks.
Situated just a few kilometres from our camp at Tshukudu Game Lodge, we find the unique Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre for animals. This centre serves as a rehabilitation place for abandoned and injured animals all over South Africa. Its aim is to treat and reintroduce these animals in the wild whenever necessary. Some animals are never reintroduced into the wild due to their conditions that may be unsuitable for life in the bush.
The animals that remain at the centre for the rest of their lives serve as learning examples for the visitors. We get to learn all the facts about them and their main threats in the wild.
The physical interaction with the animals is controlled and limited. The centre follows the security and treatment of animal protocols set up by Sats that became binding in 2019.
Guests will go for an early morning game drive before breakfast. After breakfast, guests will prepare for check-out. They will be transferred to Eastgate Airport in Hoedspruit to catch a flight to Johannesburg International Airport.
Frequent Questions
Travelling to South Africa with children can be confusing. Some few years ago, the South African government required a couple of documents for children to travel with their parents or guardians
- A valid passport for the parents/guardians and children
- A full birth certificate (original or photocopy of original) if travelling with both parents
- If travelling with one parent there is additional documentation , parent consent affidavit not longer than four months and a letter from parents signed by the authorities in case of a guardian
Due to the difficulty in getting some of these documents and the inconvenience it created, the South African government does not require some of these documents anymore. A passport is the only requirement left. However it is advisable to carry your children’s birth certificates with you .
It is always advisable to have travel insurance whenever travelling outside Europe and the United States. This will keep you at ease in case something happens. A travel insurance that covers medical situations during your period in South Africa will make your safari smooth sailing. However this is not compulsory, it’s just advisable.
There are no compulsory vaccines to travel to South Africa if you are coming from Europe or the United States. However you may want to get vaccines against COVID and the other day to day vaccines we take throughout our lives.
