Platteklip Gorge is the most direct way to the top of Table Mountain, and while the climb can be challenging, it’s incredibly rewarding. The path follows a steady zig-zag up the gorge, giving you time to take in the changing scenery — from rugged rock faces and indigenous fynbos to ever-widening views over the city below. As you climb, you might spot mountain goats along the slopes, and on rare occasions, even a caracal. Starting from Tafelberg Road, the trail leads you all the way to the summit, where sweeping views stretch toward the Hottentots Holland mountains. When conditions allow, descending by cable car is the perfect way to end the experience.
