Three wildlife outings, one luxurious bushveld night
Make the most of a short escape from Johannesburg with three guided open-vehicle safaris and a night at five-star Shepherd’s Tree Game Lodge. Pilanesberg’s ancient volcanic landscape provides a varied backdrop of hills, grassland and bush, with opportunities to encounter elephants, rhinos, giraffes and the other wildlife of this malaria-free reserve. Big Five sightings are possible, never guaranteed.
Shepherd’s Tree Game Lodge
Between wildlife outings, settle into a comfortable lodge suite and enjoy the hillside setting. Cool off in the rim-flow pool, browse the curio shop or relax over a drink before dinner. Facilities include a cocktail bar, restaurant, outdoor boma and limited complimentary Wi-Fi. Treatments at Amani African Spa are optional and charged separately; boma dining depends on weather and lodge arrangements.
From morning tracks to sunset sightings
An early Johannesburg or OR Tambo pickup brings you to Pilanesberg for an approximately three-hour morning safari. After lunch and check-in at Shepherd’s Tree, enjoy a break before a second open-vehicle outing in the late afternoon. Return to the lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.
Sunrise and a relaxed departure
A third approximately three-hour game drive starts at sunrise on Day 2. Return for breakfast, followed by time at the lodge. Around midday, choose the included optional closed-vehicle drive or remain at the lodge until the arranged collection. Other activities, including quadbiking or a bush walk, are optional extras subject to availability, age restrictions and departure timing.
Price and included services
US$1,200 per person sharing; US$1,680 for a solo traveller with the standard 40% supplement. Included are return air-conditioned road transfers, one lodge night, three open-vehicle safaris, the optional closed-vehicle drive, lunch and dinner on Day 1, breakfast on Day 2, high tea as scheduled, a selection of local beverages and the Pilanesberg conservation fee. Minibar drinks, spa treatments, gratuities, personal purchases and other optional activities are extra.
Family and travel arrangements
