Pilanesberg’s malaria-free landscape lies within an ancient volcanic crater. Explore its grasslands, hills and woodland in search of elephants, rhinos, lions and other wildlife. The reserve is home to the Big Five, but your sightings are shaped by animal movements and cannot be guaranteed.
A lodge overlooking the reserve
Bakubung, whose name means “People of the Hippo,” offers views towards a hippo pool and the surrounding park. Relax by the swimming pool, enjoy the grounds or arrange optional Legacy Balance Spa treatments. Facilities include tennis courts, a gym, children’s play areas, a restaurant and cocktail bar. Accessible-room availability should be confirmed before booking.
Five open-vehicle drives and time to pause
Your first day includes a morning safari before lunch and check-in, followed by another open-vehicle outing at sunset. Day 2 brings sunrise and afternoon drives, with breakfast, lunch and leisure time in between. A final sunrise outing on Day 3 completes approximately fifteen hours of guided open-vehicle game viewing.
On departure day, take an included optional closed-vehicle drive around noon or remain at the lodge until collection around 14:30. The planned return leaves Pilanesberg around 15:00. All timings are approximate and depend on traffic, safari conditions and lodge schedules.
Price and included meals
US$1,250 per person sharing; US$1,750 for a solo traveller with the standard 40% supplement. Return air-conditioned road transfers, two Bakubung nights, five approximately three-hour open safaris, optional closed-vehicle viewing, two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners and the Pilanesberg conservation fee are included.
Beverages, gratuities, personal expenses, spa treatments and optional lodge activities are extra. Day 3 lunch is not included. OR Tambo or hotel collection is agreed in advance. Share flight details before arranging airport drop-off; the expected 17:30–18:30 Johannesburg arrival is not a guaranteed airport connection. Accommodation is subject to availability.
